version ​

Show the installed CLI version, check npm for updates, or reset the update-check cache.

-V works anywhere except where it would collide with a subcommand's own -V (rare).

check for updates ​

Fetches the latest published version from npm and compares. Respects GFORM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 to skip network.

gform also throttles background update checks — results cache under $GFORM_HOME/state/.

reset update cache ​

Clears cached update-check state. Useful when debugging stale "update available" banners or forcing a fresh --check.

Holds version-check throttle data — not form configs or artifacts. See portable.md.

gotchas ​

  • --check needs network; offline runs print a friendly error.
  • Background check on startup is silent unless an update exists (and not suppressed).
  • Version command does not upgrade gform — use your package manager (pnpm i -g ., npm i -g, etc.).
  • gform doctor includes Node/Playwright versions but not npm update status — use version --check for that.
